How Alcantara advanced its sustainability goals with ACT

Founded in 1972, Alcantara S.p.A. is an Italian company that develops and manufactures a proprietary, versatile material used globally across sectors like automotive, fashion, interior design, and consumer electronics. 

Sustainability has long been central to Alcantara’s identity. In 2009, it became one of the first companies in Europe to achieve cradle-to-grave carbon neutrality certification. That milestone came after a major overhaul of its processes to cut carbon emissions, and it’s a commitment the company has upheld every year since. 

Alcantara's approach to sustainability is built into the company’s organizational model and spans its entire supply chain, from water footprint analysis to research into renewable bio-based materials. But leading the way comes with challenges.
