Understanding the market behind the molecule
Biomethane is gaining momentum: 1,620 plants across 25 countries, with more than €28 billion in private investment committed ahead of 2030 (EBA, 2025).
From February 2027, the SBTi Corporate Net-Zero Standard v2.0 addresses biomethane certificates in a Scope 1 context for the first time, for targets set from 2028. Claims must result in reductions within your own physical inventory.
Feedstock categories, certification schemes, registries, and national regulations influence carbon intensity, pricing, and claim eligibility. The wrong contract leaves you with a claim you cannot defend at audit.
Know what changes the biomethane decision
Europe’s biomethane market is expanding, but more supply does not make every procurement decision straightforward.
Our biomethane guide looks at the factors companies should understand before moving further, including:
how the European biomethane market is developing
what affects supply, pricing, and availability
how feedstock, origin, and certification can change the value of biomethane
where biomethane can support voluntary and compliance objectives
what to consider when assessing different procurement routes
